一、惯用法问题
不要按汉语“虽然……但是……”的表达习惯，在 although 后连用 but。如：
虽然天很冷，但我们还是去了那儿。
正：Although it was 3 cold, we went there.
误：Although it was cold, but we went there.
但是在强调时，although 可与 yet 5, still 等副词连用。如：
Though 2 he seems 6 happy, yet he is worried 7. 虽然他看起来很幸福，但他实际上很烦恼。
值得一提的是，在某些特定的语境中，although 与 but 连用的句子是可能的(注：but 引出的句子在 although 从句之前)。如：
But I didn’t know that then, although I learned 9 it later 10. 但我当时的确不知道此事，尽管后来还是知道了。
He wanted to go abroad 11, but although he had 12 some money he couldn’t afford 13 it. 他想出国，尽管他有些钱，但还是负担不起。
二、although与though的区别
1. 用作连词，表示“虽然”，两者大致同义，可换用，只是 although 比 though 更为正式。如：
Though [Although] it was raining，we went there. 虽然下着雨，但我们还是去了那儿。
2. although 一般不用作副词，而 though 可用作副词，且一般放在句末(不放在句首)，意为“可是”、“不过”。如：
It’s hard work; I enjoy it though. 工作很辛苦，可是我乐意干。
这样用的 though 有时可与 however 14 换用。如：
We all tried our best. We lost the game, though [however]. 我们都已尽了最大的力量，但我们还是输了。
3. 在 as 4 though(好像，仿佛), even 15 though(即使，纵然) 等固定短语中不能用 although。如：
He talks as though he knew anything. 他夸夸其谈好像无所不知。
4. though 引导的让步状语从句可用部分倒装的形式(注意：倒装后位于句首的名词之前不用冠词)，但 although 一般不这样用。
Poor though I am, I can afford it. 我虽穷，但这东西还是买得起的。
Child though he was, he did 8 quite well. 他虽是孩子，但干得很好。

- Although my car is very old,It'still runs very well.我的汽车虽然很旧，但仍然跑得很快。
- Although he worked hard,he failed in the exam.虽然他很努力，但他考试没有及格。
conj.虽然，尽管；即使；可是，不过，然而；adv.可是，不过，然而
- It's quite pleasant today,though the wind is rather cool.尽管风有点凉，今天天气还是很不错的。
- I will have a try even though I should fail.哪怕失败，我也要试一下。
conj.按照；如同
- He got work in a hotel as a waiter.他在一家旅馆找到了当服务生的工作。
- In the hotel,the old men were drinking away as usual.在旅馆里，这些老人和往常一样喝个不停。
adv.还，仍然，即刻；conj.尽管，然而
- I am not ready yet.我还没有准备好。
- Beautiful as she is,she didn't find a boyfriend yet.尽管她很漂亮，但还没找到男朋友呢。
v.好像，仿佛( seem的第三人称单数 )
- She seems to feel ambivalent about her new job. 她似乎对新工作忧喜参半。
- Her return to the team now seems a certainty. 她的归队现在似乎已成定局。
adj.烦恼的，为难的，焦虑的
- He was worried about the safety of me.他为我的安全担心。
- He worried his father to buy a new car.他苦苦缠着父亲要买一辆新车。
v.动词do的过去式
- How many goals did you score in the last game?上一场比赛你们进了几个球？
- Why did you choose basketball in the first place?你为何首先选择篮球呢？
adj.有学问的，博学的；learn的过去式和过去分词
- He went into a rage when he learned about it.他听到这事后勃然大怒。
- In this little village,he passed for a learned man.在这个小村子里，他被视为有学问的人。
adv.过后，后来；adj.以后的，更后的，较晚的
- He didn't turn up until half an hour later.半小时后他才出现。
- This part of the hospital was built on later.医院的这个部分是后来增建的。
adj.在国外，海外(一般作表语)；adv.到国外，在国外
- I just got back from abroad.我刚从国外回来。
- He goes abroad every year.他每年都到国外去。
vbl.have的过去式和过去分词；conj.有
- I just had a good idea!我有个好主意！
- The boy had a small branch of a tree in his hand.这个男孩手上拿一条小树枝。
vt.提供，负担得起的(后果，损失等)，给予
- At last they could afford a house.他们终于买得起房子了。
- I'll afford you a chance.我将给你提供一个机会。
adv.然而；conj.然而，可是，不过
- It's raining hard.However,I still want to go there.虽然下着大雨，我还是想去那儿。
- However, this does not always happen.然而，这种情况并不总是发生。
