Back now at 7:41 this morning on today's Tax Tips, let me try to save you a little money with the firing deadline just a little over a month away. No surprise, no one is looking forward to paying the taxmen.
I hat taxes....
Tax-man, tax-man...
Well, I always feel I think I do pay a little bit too much.
I probably pay too much on my taxes last year, because I didn't know what to write off.
Oh, hi mom, you didn't pay your taxes? I would have, but I didn't have any money.
I think I Probably could save more money on my taxes, but that entail 1 kind of more work..So
They have a lot of taxes, but I don't know what they are for exactly.
To save money on my taxes, we'll have a really good account, who knows what to do?
Death and taxes. Yes, but not apparent.
I’m for some, might her decision, people don't, some people don't file, so do my mind, that people do that..
Everybody has to pay taxes, even businessmen that rob and steal, and cheat form people everyday. Even me have to pay tax.
And yes, you have to pay taxes too, but Dennis Kneale of Forbes magazine is here with 6 Ways You Can Keep More of Your Money come April. Dennis, good morning to you.
Good morning, Mary.
Good news as I said before is April 17th this year, not April 15th, but you still gotta pay off for those people who have, yet, to tackle their taxes. You first tip is get help.
Yeah, you gotta get help because the Congress, the last minute extended some big tax rates, so if you're qualified 2 for them, they don't show up on the form the IRS printed already by the time Congress fit the action. So you got, you've got to get the "Turbo-Tax" or some kind of software to help you do it or hire an account. Now if you hire
Which is better?
You know, You've got to decide, I know they can take up 40 hours to learn one of these tax software programs. I rather just like pay a few hundred bucks 3 for an account who have be done with it.
OK. there is a one-time only credit this years. It's called the telephone exercise tax.. What is that?
That is a revenge tax, and the wonderful thing is, you know, it's only, at most 60 bucks for a family, but the IRS illegally collected the tax for 3 years on telephone service. And 7 Courts said it illegally did this and kept doing it. So this is your chance to get IRS back and say give me my 60 dollars. (Oh, right, 60 bucks!!) It's a, it's a little victory, but you know what, take every bit you can.
Absolutely, you’re not kidding. Also you say that people need to start thinking green that the government is added and sentenced to people who try to cut down on their energy consumption.
You..If you brought a hybrid 4, one of these kind of part, a battery part, definitely, you could deduct 5 up to $3,000 or so. Don't get a Toyota or Lexus because you can't get the deduction 6 for those brands already sold too many cars. And also there is a few, put solar heating or some licenses 7 ancient than your home because it deducts 8 some of that.
OK, your next tip, take credit for your kids. What are some of the child-related deduction are you talking about? Oh, everyone get side, but regular annual examination for half of your kid, but the biggest one is this, you know,11 million families last year got a $4,000 tax rate for tuition that they pay for either themselves or their kids to go to college. That tax rate is on the formula sea for the IRS which is extended very late. So you gotta get the new, the newer vision and try to take advantage of that, if you can. I think you gotta earn is a couple hundred three thousand dollars unless you get, up to $4,000 in tuition credits.
Charitable donations are always something that people do, but they change a little bit.
Yes, that's too changes. For this is the last year. One if you kept giving out cash and the collection basket of church. You're giving out cash here and there that you can plan as much as you want, without receipts. Next year you need receipts for every cash donation you do. Also the stuff you give suits, furniture has to be in good condition or even better for to be write off or for more.
How you even receive the tear if you, if you're putting money into the basket of church. Can you get a receipt?
Yeah, I think the question back is you have to start with, come with the low tire off receipt that you can grab.
What about IRA, they say that's always a good thing to do a tax on..
It's such a good thing to do and none of them for us to do because if you qualified, the money you put in there up to 4,000 a year, you can take off your tax. They don't tax at all. Then it sets your earning year after the year. If you are tax-free, then the tax is very in. There is another thing called the Rough IRA. They don't let you write it off when you put it in, but the great thing is it saves up for years, all of that is tax-free and then you pull it out without paying taxes at all.
But what if you don't have the money?
And if you don't have the money, there is a way that you can get the IRS to put into the IRA for you. You do you taxes, you know, you are gonna get a refund 9 and you ask CRS to please, put that this into this IRA that you just set up, and they pump the money in there meanwhile you’re getting deducted 10 the money that you put into in the first place, so it's kind of having the IRS save for you which is a really rich little victory. You need every victory you can get when you are going up against a taxman.
Have you paid your taxes yet?
I have not paid my taxes yet, now I was really late in pay them a year. It's always a dragging condition owning thousands of dollars whether you are doing the right thing or not, things like this, they want more and more.
Doctors heal by self, right?
Yes.
Dennis Kneale, thank you so much. Thank you more.
Thank you.
