英语构词法（15）-单词构词法

字根 magn,maj,max 源出拉丁文形容词 magnus [大的],与其比较级 maior [比较 大的],最高级 maximus [最大的]. 其中比 较级 maior 与字根 maj 的拼法,有 i,j 两音互换现象,例如: maxim 1 n. [座右铭, 格言],出自罗马哲学家包伊修斯 (Boethius,480?_?524) 的著作,将 propositio maxima (greatest proposition),视作 [公理,定理] (如英 文的 axiom) 的意思. 后来的学者又去掉 propositio,直接将 maxima 称作 [公理, 定理]. 进入英文之后 maxima 衍变成 [座 右铭,格言],拼法也缩短为 maxim.
