  今天要讲的习惯用语原来出自演艺界,但是如今却被各处借用来指失败。第一个是:bomb。Bomb这个词大家不会觉得陌生。它在字典里有十多条解释最常用的一条是炸弹,然而最初是演艺界的人借用bomb来指一部失败的电影,现在bomb可以用来泛指任何以彻底失败告终的事情了,包括出版的一本书或者一个业务项目。我们听唐本森先生怎么谈论昨晚看的一场电影。请大家特别里面用到的bomb这个词的特殊意义是什么。

今天要学的第二个习惯用法是: turkey。Turkey对很多人说来并不陌生,可不就是美国人在一年一度的盛大节日感恩节或者圣诞节享用的火鸡吗?说火鸡愚蠢可一点也不过分。任何饲养火鸡的人都会告诉你:他们必须把彩色玻璃弹子放在火鸡的饲料里,火鸡才会注意到自己的美餐在哪里。起先turkey只是被借用来说笨拙愚蠢的饭桶,但是到了二十世纪二十年代turkey又被转用来指蹩脚的三流戏剧、电影或者文学作品了。

幽默作家Perleman似乎是第一个把turkey这个词作这个用途的人。他把自己创作的一部失败的剧作称为turkey,自我解嘲。下面让我们听个例子。这是个演员在谈刚在百老汇上演的一部戏糟糕透顶,所以才上演两天就停演了。
