President Barack Obama laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns to honor members of the military who died serving their country. In his remarks, Obama called for Americans to honor the fallen by caring for those they leave behind, their families and their peers who come home.

The director of the Cincinnati zoo says staffers are receiving messages of support and condolences from around world after a gorilla 1 there was fatally shot to proect a 4-year-old boy who'd fallen into its enclosure. Zoo visitors are leaving flowers at the gorilla exhibit and asking how they can support gorilla conservation.
Wildlife officials in Sri Lanka rescued an elephant calf 2 after it fell into an uncovered drain. Rescue workers had to break open the drain to pull the animal out.
