它们是: nickel 1 and dime 2。

1:Joe wanted to be his own boss but he had only enough money to open up a little newspaper stand. Just a nickel and dime business but he hopes it's the start of something bigger.

A dime a dozen

2:In the ad business good ideas are a dime a dozen. Everybody has them. What you look for is a man or woman who can take an idea and make it come alive in words and pictures.

3: I wish I had the money to buy a sports car, one of those convertibles 3 with good steering 4 that lets you turn on a dime and good brakes that make you stop on a dime.

所以turn on a dime意思是打小转弯,stop on a dime意思是立即刹住。

我们再来学一个习惯用语: get off the dime。Get off the dime常常用来敦促某人采取行动、当机立断。 好,我们来听他怎么说,注意里面用到的 get off the dime。

例句-4:Peter, I can't wait any longer for you to decide whether you want to sign the contract. You have to get off the dime today - otherwise we'll go to some other company.

所以get off the dime意思是不再迟疑、作出决断。
