　　在美国和西方世界，玛丽莲梦露这个名字几乎是无人不晓的，即使在今天她仍然是大多数美国人心目中的“性感女神”。50年代和60年代初，这名从孤儿院出来的姑娘红透整个好莱坞，使多少爱慕虚荣的少女羡慕；而她在36岁的风华之年突然自杀身死，又使万千影迷困惑不解。

　　1942年6月19日，原名诺玛琼培克，1946年，诺玛被二十世纪福克斯公司大老板看中拍板雇用，从此有了这个艺名——玛丽莲梦露。1953年是玛丽莲人生的一个转折点，在电影《尼亚加拉》里第一次担任主角。影片以有名于世的大瀑布为背景，烘托玛丽莲优美的体态。该片上映以来，场场爆满，她不仅一跃成为第一流的明星，而且成了好莱坞一手炮制的最了不起的神话。她在《大江东去》中饰演淘金热时代的酒吧歌女，亲自演唱了主题曲"River of No Return"，余音绕梁，至今仍是广受欢迎的怀念金曲。

　　在逝去了近40年后，玛丽莲·梦露依然是闻名于世的第一金发美女。尽管15年只拍了30部电影，她却是50多本著作的主角，这在影坛还无人能及。没有人像她那样集美貌性感于一身，同时却又内心脆弱，这使她声名鹊起，却又让她陷入麻烦。即使红得发紫，玛丽莲·梦露也未能从事业或爱情上得到长久的安慰或欢乐，而这正是她短暂一生的可悲之处。
