Part 1 A Brief History of Disneyland

Disneyland has seen 50 summers pass in procession since its gates first opened July 17, 1955. Forty-five summers of parades and fireworks, of Mickey and Minnie, of playing host to people from all over the world.

Over the years, Disneyland has acquired the unmistakable characteristics of a national institution. It is a "must see" destination for any visitor to the western United States. Many Californian regard Disneyland as one of the states natural assets - like the Pacific Ocean or the Redwood forests. It is indeed a place for all ages.

Sometimes it is hard to remember that before there was a Disneyland... there was only a vision and a dream of one man - Walt Disney. The vision and dream was made possible with some empty sketch 1 pads, canvases and a few sandwiches. It was these first "sketches 2" of "The Happiest Place on Earth" that provided Walt and Roy Disney the ability to secure the necessary financial backing to build Disneyland.

Inspired and led by Walt Disney over a long weekend in September 1953, artist Herbert Dickens Ryman was selected by Walt Disney as his master imagineer to bring the dream to reality...Disneyland is more than just buildings, attractions and adventures.

It is a virtual "masterpiece" in the making. Virtually every square inch of Disneyland - every building, street corner, attraction, store interior - in fact every little detail from lampposts to trash cans are inspired by a painting, drawing or piece of sculpture... it is the artist's vision that guides the builders hand.

The process of creating Disneyland attractions is lengthy 3 and complex. And yet the artist's role remains 4 pivotal. He or she is responsible for giving initial form to new ideas, for refining concepts through artistic 5 renderings 6 and for providing the inspiration and cohesive 7 vision for turning dreams into reality.

In celebration of Disneyland's 50th Anniversary and the 10th Anniversary of the Ryman Foundation for Young Artists, the Disney Gallery, located above the Pirates of the Caribbean in Disneyland, is pleased to present the art of Herbert Dickens Ryman in release of his autobiography 8 "A Brush with Disney".

Part 2 At Disneyland

Dialogue Script 1

Mom: OK! Here are your tickets! Are you ready for a fun day at Disneyland?
Tony: Yeah! Let's go!
Mom: Tony! Get back here! Now what are the rules?
Tony: No running. Now let's go! (pulls on his mom's shirt)
Mom: And no tugging 10 at my clothes! We've got all day. There's no rush.
Tony: OK. But I want to ride all the rides.
Mom: You can ride as many as you want. Cool your jets! It's only ten in the morning!
(In the souvenir shop)
Tony: Look at this, Mom! A Monsters Inc. backpack! I need one of these for school!
Mom: We just walked into the park. If you buy anything now, you'll have to lug 11 it around all day.
Tony: OK! But remember that's what I want to get!
Mom: OK, but I bet you'll change your mind. There are more souvenirs than you can count. You'll see.
Tony: Look outside! There's Goofy! He's my favorite! Let's take a picture with him!
Mom: OK. But don't butt 12 in line. You'll have to wait your turn.

Now what are the rules? rule就是指“规矩,规则”。 The rule is that someone must be on duty at all times.

My rule is to get up at seven everyday. She made a rule of eating an apple a day. No running. And no tugging at my clothes!

She tugged 13 at my sleeve and pointed 14 to him. There's no rush. rush在这里表示“急促的动作,冲,奔”,比如说,He made a rush for the door. People were trampled 15 in the headlong rush.

Stay next to me, or you'll get lost! Don't talk so loud!/ Don't shout! See how good all the other children are being. Don't go across that line! You need to be patient. Stop fighting with your big brother/little sister. I'm gonna tell your dad/mom how you've been acting 16 up.

Cool your jets! 我们用一个对话作例子,---We have to run to catch the start of the movie! ---Cool your jets! The previews will be ten minutes long.

She's lugging 17 a heavy suitcase up the stairs. 那么lug sth around all day,She had to lug the kids around all day.

Don't butt in like that when I'm speaking! May I butt in on your conversation?

10. wait one's turn

Dialogue Script 2

(taking a picture with Goofy)
Tony: Cool. I'm gonna scan that picture and send it to grandma!
Mom: That's a great idea. She'll love that. You're her favorite grandson.
Tony: I'm her only grandson...Mom, why don't the characters ever talk?
Mom: Well, you know that you are actors in costumes, right?
Tony: Duh! Like, of course!
Mom: Well, I guess it would be too hard to match all the voices, and they don't want to change the characters' images.
Tony: Or maybe the actors would get too tired if they did talk to everyone.
Mom: I bet they do. Those costumes are heavy and hot.
Tony: That's what I want to do when I grow up!
Mom: It sounds like fun, but it might be exhausting.
Tony: Nah. It would be cool. Then I could come here every day! I wish I could see who's in the costumes!
Mom: Me, too. Sometimes, if you look into the eyes of the costume, you can see a face!
Tony: I was looking, but I didn't see anything. Geez. That must be the coolest job in the world!

Duh! Like, of course! Duh!

It sounds like fun, but it might be exhausting. Nah. It would be cool. Nah.

Geez. That must be the coolest job in the world!

Dialogue Script 3

(in Tomorrowland)
Mom: What rides do you want to try here?
Tony: I want to go on Space Mountain!
Mom: Sorry, sweetie. I think you're too small for that ride.
Tony: No way! I'm already ten!
Mom: See. You have to be at least three-foot-four. You're two-foot-eight.
Tony: I hate being short for my age!
Mom: Don't worry. You'll grow to three feet by the end of the year. Let's go on the Astro Orbitor ride!
(After the ride)
Tony: I wanna go again, Mom!
Mom: Why don't we make rounds to the other areas and come back?
Tony: Oh, look! Space Ice! It's red and blue! I want some!
Mom: That might ruin your appetite. How about after lunch?
Tony: But I'm hungry now! Oh! There's a hot dog stand!
Mom: Sure, why not? I guess that can count as lunch.
Tony: I want two!
Mom: OK, but I bet your eyes are bigger than your stomach.

No way! I'm already ten! No way!

I hate being short for my age! You're so mature /smart for your age. That's so funny! ---That's mean. Aren't you acting a little immature 19 for your age?

make rounds的意思是“照着顺序走完一遍,也可以说do the rounds或者go on the rounds.

I want some!

OK, but I bet your eyes are bigger than your stomach.

Dialogue Script 4

Tony: Look! There's Buzz Lightyear! I wanna go talk to him!
Mom: I'll stand in line for the hot dogs, and you go stand in line to talk to him.
Tony: Cool! I'll be right back.
Mom: Remember your manners!
Tony: I will. Oh, no! Look at all the kids around him! And he's walking that way!
Mom: He seems to be in demand. You'd better line up quick before he goes too far. I'll be over there.
Tony: OK, bye. (runs off) Wait! Buzz! Don't walk away!
(Talk to Buzz Lightyear)
Buzz: Do you want to be an astronaut when you grow up?
Tony: I think I'd rather be you! I want to work at Disneyland!
Buzz: By the time you grow up, you might be able to do both. They might have Disneyland in space one day.
Tony: Awesome 20!
Buzz: Just remember to study hard in school, so you can do whatever you want! Hey, where are your parental 21 figures?
Tony: Ha-ha! Space talk, huh! I gotta go. See ya later! Maybe in space!

Remember your manners!

I think I'd rather be you! I'd rather be...,就是“我宁可变成/成为…”

Where are your parental figures?

6. Tony跟巴斯光年道了别,要走了,I gotta go.或者I've gotta go.

Part 3 Tony Gets Lost Tony

Dialogue Script 1

(Later, Tony gets lost. Pluto finds him)
Tony: Mom! Mom! Moooooooom!
Pluto: Hey, little guy! Calm down! Did you lose your mom? Where did you last see her?
Tony: She went to buy hot dogs and was going to wait for me there. But I can't find her.
Pluto: How long ago was that?
Tony: I don't know. What if I don't find her? (starts to cry)
Pluto: Don't cry. We'll find her. We'll go page her. Now, what's your name?
Tony: Tony Stuart.
Pluto: I'll take you where they can page people. They'll take down all your information and help you find her, OK?
Tony: Oh, man! She's gonna be so mad! I won't get my souvenirs, and I'll be grounded. Hey, you're talking!
Pluto: You just realized that? Don't tell anyone! It's our secret-just calm down first. I'm an expert in stray moms. (takes off his Pluto head) Wanna try this on?
Tony: Wow! I'd love to! (tries it on)

What if I don't find her? what if 就表示“要是…,该怎么办”。

I'm an expert in stray moms. stray

I'd love to. 这个句子表示“欣然同意”,比如说,---Wanna go to the movies with me? ---Yes, I'd love to.

6. 如果在I'd love to.后面加上but,就有“推托”的意思了,比如说,---Would you like to go out for dinner with me tonight? ---I'd really love to, but I have had plans already.

Dialogue Script 2

Mom: Can you help me?
Sam: Yes, ma'am. Lose your kid? Can you describe him for us?
Mom: Yes. Ten years old, two-foot-eight, light brown hair, green eyes. And he's got an adorable face... sweet voice...
Sam: Calm down, ma'am. We always find our little guests. Don't worry. What's he wearing?
Mom: A yellow Disney T-shirt - like half of the kids here. His name is Tony Stuart.
Sam: I'll page him.
(After hearing the page, Pluto takes Tony to his Mom)
Mom: Tony! Honey! I looked for you everywhere! Oh, thank you, Pluto!
Tony: His name is Walt. He's so cool. He's actually a college student.
Mom: That's cool! Now, Tony, no more wandering after Disney characters.
Tony: I won't. In fact, I don't want to be one. Those costumes are smelly! I'm going to be an astronaut.
Mom: Well, that's cool...here's your hot dog. Thank you again, Pluto. Hot dog?
Pluto: My pleasure. And um...I'm one, one very hot dog...

I'm one, one very hot dog...
