Historians have revealed hard evidence thatthe settlers in the American colony at James Town, Virginia resorted to cannibalism 1 to survivethe harsh winter of 1609. Researchers said damages to the skull 2 of a14-year-old girl they named Jane show signs that she was dismembered theneaten. An account by one of the settlers recalled how they were forced to eattheir horses, dogs and cats in order to survive the harsh conditions.Researchers said Jane was probably not the only case of cannibalism.

How many of the growing members of the dead were cannibalized is unknown, butwe don’t believe Jane was a lone 3 case. Only in the most desperate circumstanceswould the English have turned to cannibalism.
