近期，我们一直都在谈论“Marriage”（婚姻）这个话题，学了不少的招儿来应付。我们来回顾一下：a blind date是指由介绍人安排的男女间的初次会面；make a mathch of it意思是结为夫妻；make an offer是指求婚；to wear bachelor's buttons是指男性过着单身生活；to wear a straw in one's ear意思是指（寡妇或离婚女子）寻找一个丈夫；to wed 1 with a rush ring是指草率地结婚；wear another woman's old shoes意思是娶他人的妻子或寡妇为妻；wedded bliss是指极端幸福的婚姻生活；pop the question to意思是向某人求婚。
那么，今天我将抛出最后一招说“Marriag”，我们从下面的2个句子中来看看这最后一招是什么。
例句-1：A huge fortune puts him in a position towin the hand offamouse beauty.
例句-2：He went after her for many years andwon her handat last.
在我们刚才听到的2个例句中，我们都可以听到一个含有“win”和“hand”的词语：win the hand和win one's hand。这2个词语的意思是相同的。词语中的“win”的意思是“to achieve or get something that you want, expecially by your own efforts”Hand是指“手”。它们的字面意思就是“通过努力得到了某人的手”。用于婚姻上能牵着某人的手一起浪漫地走在林荫树下，溪水之边，就意味着“得到了某人”，“娶到了某人为妻”。So, tt means to marry someone that you love by your efforts.
我们再来看2个例句：
例句-1：He ran after the girl for about 2 years but failed to win her hand.
译文：他追求那位姑娘约有两年时间，但还是没有赢得她的爱情。
注解：run after：追赶，跟踪，追求
Eg.She runs after every good-looking man she meets.
译文：凡是漂亮的男子，她见一个就追一个。
Eg.If you run after two hares 2, you will catch neither.
译文：（谚语）同时追两兔，全都抓不着。
例句-2：Anyone who hopes to win the hand of Gillian would need to have a lot of money.
译文：希望娶Gillian为妻的人得要有许多钱。
注解：who hopes to win the hand of Gillian是定语从句修饰前面的先行词anyone。这个先行词是不定代词，指人，它在从句中做主语，在可以考虑的关系代词who和that中只能选择who，不能用that。而且它在定语从句中做主语是不能省略的。像这样的情况，只能用关系代词who引导出一个定语从句来修饰表示人的先行词还有those，all，he等等。
