常说“婚姻是爱情的坟墓”，但是我们以积极的心理去看待，即便是让我们心灵受到累累创伤的婚姻，它也给我们的生活增添了一道光景。更重要的是我们从中拥有了一笔丰厚的财富，这笔财富就是我们冷静下来，思索过去，以矛盾论去看待失败的婚姻，找到失败的根基，总结经验，重新去拥有一片阳光而又浪漫的爱的天地。可是，有的人是“一朝被蛇咬，十年怕井绳。”，畏惧心灵再受创伤而不愿结婚，保持独身生活，过单身日子。
 
好，我们今天就来看看“保持独身生活”“过单身日子”在英文中用一个有趣的词语如何来说。我们先来听下面的2个句子：
 
例句-1：If that is the marriage like, I would choose to wear bachelor's buttons.
 
（译文：如果婚姻就是那个样子的话，我宁愿独身。）
 
例句-2：He is still wearing bachelor's buttons.
 
（译文：他还是个光棍。）
 
在我们刚才听到的2个例句中，我们都可以听到同一个词语：wear bachelor's buttons。这是一条在1570～1580年经常使用的动词性习惯用语。习语中的wear（It is spelled w-e-a-r,）是“穿戴”的意思，bachelor（It is spelled b-a-c-h-e-l-o-r.）是单身男子的意思，button（It is spelled b-u-t-t-o-n.）是指“纽扣”。Wear bachelor's buttons作为习惯用语，它的意思是：not to marry any one and remain single，意思是指男性不结婚而保持独身生活，过单身日子。
 
此外，习语中的bachelor's button是指开纽扣花的植物，例如：千日红(Gomphrena globosa)、雏菊(Bellis perennis)、橘黄远志(Polygala lutea)、庭菖蒲(Sisyrinchium)等等。Wear bechelor's button是做单身汉，独身生活的意思了，起源于这样一个习俗文化：乡村小伙子把纽扣花放在口袋里，以其枯萎与否作为心上人是否变心的征兆；而姑娘则把花放在围裙里面。
 
我们再来看一些例子。首先是一个小对话：
 
A:I cannot figure it out. He is so billiant and had been wearing bachelor's buttons since he got divorced 1.
 
A:我真弄不明白他是如此才华横溢，可是自从离婚后就一直不结婚。

因为他不愿受到约束，所以他不想结婚。
 
（这个例子中，我们可以看到：The man need freedom. 因此了，在英美国家有这样一个习俗，就是无论男女在结婚之前，其好友要为他们举办一个告别单身生活的聚会，这个在我们前些日子已经学习过了。）
 
Eg.Distrusting any women, he wore bachelor's buttons all his life.
 
由于不信任女人，他打了一辈子光棍儿。
 
（这个例子中，我们可以看到：The man distrust any women, it's related 2 with his charactistics. 这个人是不信任任何女人，这个跟他的性格有关。）
 
注解：Distrusting any women是现在分词短语在句子中做原因状语，我们可以将之改为原因状语从句：Because he distrusted any women. he wore bachelor's buttons all his life.
 
Eg.There's only one way —— wear bachelor's buttons if you take up this trade!
 
只有一条路，没法，干咱们这行儿的就得打一辈子光棍儿！
 
（这句话是老舍先生笔下的《骆驼祥子》中的一句话的翻译。从这句话中，我们可以看到：The man is tied by making a living. 这个男人指是由于生计和工作所迫。）
 
注解：take up：从事
 
Eg.He did not particularly want to take up a competitive 3 sport.
 
他并没有特别想要开始从事竞技性运动项目。
