接招：在上面的2个例句中都用到了同一个词语：beer and skittles。这是一条名词性的习惯用语，短语中的beer 是“啤酒”的意思，skittle是“游戏”的意思。Beer and skittle字面意思就是“啤酒和游戏”，我们非常容易联想这个词语的引申义：“啤酒”是来“喝”的，“游戏”是来“玩”的，这就是“吃喝玩乐”的意思，“过舒服愉快的生活”的意思。使用这个短语时，注意beer是不可数名词，而skittle是可数名词，则要使用skittle的复数形式才能表达出“something pleasurable or fun time”的意思。此外，这个词语通常是用于否定句中，即：not beer and skittles。
休斯有一句名言：“Life is not all beer and skittles.”人生并非只是啤酒和九柱戏。（人生并不全是吃喝玩乐。）也有这么一句歌词：“Spring is here, spring is here. Life is skittles and life is beer.”意思是：春天来了，生活是杯美酒，生活是个游戏。这里说到的life is beer，life is skittles是对春天的赞美，在歌词中是褒义的用法。

他没有负担，也没有金钱的烦恼，对他来说，生活完全是吃喝玩乐。
3. It goes without saying that life is not all beer and skittles.
毋庸质疑，人生并不全是吃喝玩乐。
注解1：go：说 “It goes + that引导的从句”意思是：常言道。重语法的角度来说，that引导的从句是主语从句，这是真实主语，而it是形式主语。
注解2： without saying：不用说
句型：It goes without saying that... 无需多说...... 不用说...... 毋庸置疑......
Eg. It goes without saying that studying vocabulary is a key part of language learning.
不用说也知道，学习词汇是学习语言的一个主要部份。
Eg. It goes without saying that health is above wealth.
健康胜于财富这个道理是无需多说的。
4. I think the man above is worthy 1 of marrying him. He is not like that a good-for-nothing from a wealthy family, whose life is all beer and skittles.
我想像这样的人还是值得嫁的，他不像纨绔子弟一样，整天吃喝玩乐。
注解1：be worthy of：值得
Eg. Their efforts are worthy of your support.
他们这样努力应得到你的支持。
Eg . His behavior is worthy of praise.

Eg . It was difficult to find words worthy of the occasion.
很难找到适合于那种场合的言词。
注解2：good-for-nothing：n. 无用的人, 懒惰的人, 废物, 饭桶
Eg. Where's that good-for-nothing son of yours? 你那个废物儿子在哪儿呢?
注解3：a good-for-nothing from a wealthy family：纨绔子弟
