Hello, everyone! This is KeKe Net English. Welcome to Juliet’s Morning English Class. A saying goes, “An hour in the morning is worth two hours in the evening. ” So, I hope we can spent a wonderful and meaningful 1 time here.

We have a way of asking if an important thing the speaker said was understood. Guess what it is. Let’s listen to the following mini situational dialogue to get the answer.

(Scene:It is about a fight by words between two lovers 2.)

A:Idon’t ever want to see you again. Is that clear?

B:Fine! Here is your engagement 3 ring back.

Have you got the answer? It is "Is thatclear?"It is like asking “Did you understand what I said?” It’s similar to saying in Chinese——明白我的话了吗?or 知道什么意思了吧。For two more examples:

Example 1:You' ll do as you' re told, is that clear ?(译文:让你怎么做就怎么做, 明白吗?)

Example 2:You must behave yourselves, is that clear?(译文:你得规规矩矩,明白了没有?)

If someone asks you if you are clear about what he has said, you could answer like this——I ‘ve caught your drift 4. Let’s see another mini situational dialogue.

(Scene:It happens between a couple to discuss how to afford a house.)

A:In order to get enough money to buy a house, We’ll both have to get jobs and save our salaries. Is that clear?

B:I caught your drift. No need to teach me a lesson again.

Bear these phrases 5 in your mind:in order to(为了),get enough money(得到足够的钱),save one’s salary(节约薪水),teach sb a lesson(教训某人),no need to do something(没必要做某事)。

Now please be active and answer my questions, finishing listening the two dialogues. For sure, I’ll tell you my questions. Myquestionsare as follows:

1.What does B ask A to do after A said he does not want to see her?

2.How can this couple get enough money to buy a house?

Listen to the following two dialogues carefully.

Dialogue 1:

A:I don’twant ever to see you again. Is that clear?

B:Fine! Here is your engagement ring back.

Dialogue 2:复件 morning class.jpg

A:In order to get enough money to buy a house, We’ll both have to get jobs and save our salaries. Is that clear?

B:Icaught your drift. No need to teach me a lesson again.

Theanswersto those two questions are as follows:

1.BasksA to take his engagement ring to her back.

2.They must get jobs and save their salaries.

So, today what have we learned 6 for now? We’ve learned two short sentences which are of the same meaning used in spoken English. One is that——Is that clear? The other is that——I catch your drift. All my dear listeners 7, it is time to say goodbye to you. Let’s call it a day. Thank you for your participation 8 in today’s study activity! See you next time!
