抛招-1:Fred's joke went over like a lead balloon.
抛招-2:I'm afraid my proposal 1 to the committee will go over like a lead balloon.
接招:在上面的2个例句中都用到了同一个词语:go over like a lead balloon。 作为习惯用语,this idiom is used in order to say that people did not like a remark, idea, joke etc that was supposed to be interesting or funny, or that they did not react at all,意思是指(笑谈,建议等)完全不受欢迎,没有引起人的任何反应。
When I gave my speech to the club, I started off with a joke to get the audience in a good mood. But my joke went over like a lead balloon - nobody even cracked a smile. And it almost ruined the rest of the speech for me.
1:give a speech to sb:给......演讲
注解2:start off:开始 start off with:以......开始
Eg. Don't light a cigarette when you meet the boss; you'll start off on the wrong foot.
Eg. If you try to start off in top gear 2 you'll stall 3.
3:get sb in a good mood:使......心情好
Eg. I failed in the competition, my mother try to get me in a good mood as hard as she could, which was in vain.
Eg . Father is a serious person, who seldom cracks a smile.
Eg. I'd do anything to see you crack a smile.
I told my kids if they stop watching TV for a week before their final exams, I'll take them to the zoo to see the pandas the first week of their summer vacation. But my suggestion went over like a lead balloon.
