我们就先来听下面的2个例子：
例句-1：Tom visited the Smiths so often that he worn 1 out his welcome.
例句-2：At about midnight I decided 2 I had worn out my welcome, so I went home.
接招：在刚才我们听到的2个例句中都用到了同一个词语：worn out one's welcome，worn是动词wear的过去式，因此这个短语是wear out one's welcome。短语中的wear out是使......精疲力尽，耗尽的意思。例如：She' s worn out after a long hard day. 累了整整一天，她筋疲力尽了。His patience was worn out.他已忍耐不住了。Wear out one's welcome这个习语从字面意思看就是：耗尽某人的热情而使别人对你的欢迎程度削减，使得别人招待你都招待得精疲力尽了而不愿意接待你了，意即：访客到别人家呆的太久或过于频繁来访（而使得主人产生厌烦之感），其英文解释是这样的：to stay too long (at an event to which one has been invited); to visit somewhere too often。
