1:Ever since their quarrel last year, they have not been on speaking terms.
例句-2:Mary, who is on speaking terms with John, is now quite sympathetic and wonders if she should help him out of the situation.
要表示和某人仅为好友,我们在短语后加上介词with,即:be on speaking terms with somebody。
1:Ever since their quarrel last year, they have not been on speaking terms.
Eg . He's been in the doldrums ever since she left him.
Eg . He's been a thorn 1 in my side ever since he joined this department.
2:Mary, who is on speaking term with John, is now quite sympathetic and wonders if she should help him out of the situation.
注解:help sb out of the situation:帮助某人摆脱(不好的)状况
At last they' re on speaking terms again!
1. The two families had never been on speaking terms.
2. In the past the two of them did not get on at all well; they weren't even on speaking terms.
3. Linda and Tina were again on speaking terms, their disagreement dead and buried.
4. It was for the latter reason that he was barely 2 on speaking terms with his sister, Miss Pittypat. (From Gone with the Wind)
