We have a good appetite, we see great food, we will... will what...will... 将怎么样呢？将会垂涎欲滴，垂涎三尺。今天我们就来看“垂涎欲滴”“垂涎三尺”在英文中如何表达。
我们先来听下面的2个例句：
例句-1：Will dinner be ready soon? It smells so good that everyone is alreadylicking his or her chops.
例句-2：The relative are alreadylicking their chops overthe old man's money.
在我们刚才听到的2个例句中，都用到了与chop有关的一个习惯用语：lick one's chop。习语中的lick（It's spelled l-i-c-k.）是“舔”的意思，chop（It's spelled, c-h-o-p.）是“排骨”的意思，lick one's chop字面意思是舔排骨，比喻为：to lick your lips when thinking of something good to eat，意思是当你想着什么好吃的东西时，就舔自己的舌头，亦即“垂涎欲滴”“垂涎三尺”之意。
刚才我们说到的“垂涎欲滴”“垂涎三尺”是用于食物上，那么在不同的情景下有着不同的意思。第二个例句中的lick one's chops意思就是to be eager to do something that you think will be satisfying or pleasant，是指渴望去做某事，这件事将使你得到满足和感到高兴。
那么要表述对......垂涎欲滴，在短语的后面加上介词over，即：lick one's chops over something or somebody。
