Researchers at the University of Illinois investigated the response of a group of college men and women to a large milk shake before a meal. Half of the students were on a diet，while the other half were not. All were given a large milk shake before a meal. Non-dieters ate smaller meals following the milk shake.

Dieters，however, ate more ice cream after the milk shake，demonstrating what weightloss experts call the"counter-regulation" effect，a psychological 1 tendency to overeat after having eaten something not allowed on one’s diet-"I blew it, so I may as well give up.”Non-dieters pay more attention to their level of satiety 2, or fullness. Avoid eating the wrong foods in the first place.
然而，节食者喝完奶昔后，却吃了更多的冰淇淋，这就验证了减肥专家所称的“反管制”效应，也就是一种吃了节食中不该吃的食物后就会产生暴食的心理倾向—“我搞砸了，所以干脆放弃算了。”非节食者则较留意他们的饱足感或满足感。所以一开始就要避免吃不该吃的东西。
