Daniel: Wow, the view from the peak is so grand!

Daniel: But my father did not. He didn't have much time.

一般过去时

“My father used to take me to Xiang Shan or somewhere like that as a child”中出现的语法现象为一般过去时。

1.一般过去时主要表示

（１）在过去的时间里所发生的动作或存在的状态

时间状语有：yesterday, last week, an hour ago, the other day, in 1949 等

I bought it yesterday. 我昨天买的。

Where did you go last night? 你昨天晚上去哪里了？

（２）在过去一段时间内，经常或习惯性的动作

When I was a child, I often played football in the street. 我小时候常在街道里踢足球。

（３）在常用口语句型It is time sb. did sth. （早该……了）中用过去时

It is time you went to bed. 你早该睡觉了。

2. 一般过去时的构成

（１）规则动词过去式，一般在动词原形末尾直接加上-ed

look-looked play-played

（２）以不发音的字母e结尾的动词，去掉末尾e再加-ed

live-lived love-loved

（３）末尾只有一个辅音字母的重读闭音节，先双写这个辅音字母，再加-ed

s-sped

（４）末尾是辅音字母+y结尾的动词，先变y为I,　然后再加-ed

study-studied

（５）不规则动词的过去式需特殊记忆
