An * track to Hungary's border with Austria is stretching well into the night. Some 12000 people, many of them Syrian refugees, are taking breaks along the side of a highway this hour before continuing on. Strollers can be seen along the way, inside them apparently 1 exhausted 2 children, * after they along with their parents and extended families left Budapest for the long journey. NPR's AB is monitoring developments. Thousands of migrants made their way in the afternoon out of Budapest along the highway that leads to Vienna. Hungarian citizens horrified 3 by their government's harsh treatments of the refugees have come out in droves to help them.SB is one of them. ‘What are you doing out there now?’'We arrived to help the migrants with some water, some baby foods so to support them in this really hard times. What they do currently. As you know now they stared to walk out from Budapest. So we have to support them for sure. ' AB, NPR news, Budapest. After coming under global scrutiny 4 for its handling of the migrant crisis, the Hungarian government now says it's offering buses to help transport hundreds of people to the border with Austria. However, earlier migrants have complained that they were fooled into getting on trains that were bound for refugee camps in Hungary rather than Austria. Chants of support later countered by critics outside the R county clerk's office in Kentucky set a latest battle of gay rights. The office is now issuing marriage licenses 5 to same-sex couples but the eclectic clerk KD remains 6 in jail for contempt of court. She says the government order to issue the licenses violates her Christian 7 believes. She's asking that her name be removed from the licenses. US stocks are sharply lower with a mixed jobs report fueling uncertainty 8 of whether the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates later this month. NPR's U has details on the Labor 9 Department's monthly employment report on how the jobs market fared in August. It might sound counter-intuive but investors 10 have been hoping a weaker job report. That might push the Federal Reserve to delay raising interest rates when it means later this month. Instead the August jobs report came in on the weak side but not weak enough to make the rate hike less likely. Payrolls 11 increased by 173000 which is below what economists 12 expected. But that was also set by a big upward revision to July's hiring numbers. Meanwhile, the employment rate dropped to 5.1 percent which is in the range what the Fed considers full employment. Before the closing bell, Dow was down 273 points, more than 1.5 percent at 16102. Law enforcement officials are mourning a fallen officer today. Amazing grace played at the funeral of sheriff's deputy DG, that's second baptist church in Huston. Thousands of people, many of then police officers from across the nation pay their final respect to G who was gunned down a week ago at a gas station. His alleged 13 killer 14 has been charged with capital murder. No motive 15 has been disclosed. A judge in New Orleans has declared mayor M in contempt of court for failure to resolve a impest over firefighter's pay that began back in the 1970s. L offered a plan today but the court was not having any of it. PK, a member of association WWN reports the judge is threatening to put the mayor under house arrest until the matter is resolved. State district judge K held MA in contempt for failing to come up with an acceptable plan to pay 75 million dollars in back-pain and pension benefits to firefighters as ordered a year ago. This comes after the judge rejected the city's proposal which called for payouts over 30 years and included pension concessions 16. L said a one-time payoff would cripple the city.'Before I lay off firefighters, police and sitting employees, I'm prepared to stay under house arrest for the next two years of my term.'Foreigners say 30 years is too long to wait. The judge agreed and gave the city until next Friday to find a solution. Before the close, all major market indices are down more than 1percent. I'm LS. NPR news in Washington.
