Hmm… yes… that was the next item on the agenda 1.Our end-of-year bonus. Hmm...是的...那是我们议程的下一个话题。我们的年终奖金。
Well… you see… there isn’t going to be a bonus this year. 好吧...你也看到了...今年不会有奖金了。
What! No bonus?I’ve been working really hard.This isn’t fair. 什么！没奖金？我一直工作非常努力。这是不公平的。
Anna. You needed to break that news gently. Anna。你要轻轻地打破那个消息。
Explain why there’s no bonus – give them the facts.The facts? 解释为什么没奖金--告诉他们事实。事实？
Yes. Tell them that ’we’re operating in tough economic conditions’ and ’we need to meet our sales targets’. 是的。告诉他们“我们公司现在经济条件很困难。”，“我们要达到我们的销售目标。”
And you could tell Tom to ’pull your socks up’. 你还得告诉Tom“穿好你的袜子。”
Pull his socks up? Most of his socks are on the bedroom floor. 把他的袜子穿好？他绝大多数的袜子都在卧室的地板上。
He should pick them up rather than pull them up! 他应当把他们捡起来而不是穿上！
No Anna! It’s a saying – it means to make more effort – do better - work harder. 不是Anna！这是个谚语--意思是要更加努力-做得更好--工作更努力。
But remember he is your husband now, so be gentle! 但是记得他现在是你老公了，所以温柔些！
