chair 指的是一种有靠背(有时还有扶手)的可移动的单人“椅子”，而 seat 1 则是指供人坐的东西，它可是椅子、凳子等，也可以是箱子、地板等可以供人坐的地方。如：
There are some tables and chairs in the room. 房间里有几张桌子和几把椅子。
The back seat of the car is wide 2 enough for three people. 汽车的后座很宽，可以坐 3 个人。
There’re no more chairs; you’ll have to use that box for a seat. 椅子都有人坐了，你只好坐那个箱子了。
两者在某些表达中也可换用。如：
Please take a chair [seat]. 请坐。
