他指出，中美两国要坚持构建中美新型大国关系的正确方向，正确判断彼此战略意图(read each other's strategic intentions correctly)，坚定不移推进合作共赢(advance win-win cooperation)，妥善有效管控分歧(manage their differences properly)，广泛培植人民友谊(cultivating extensive friendship among people of the two nations)，共同开创中美更加美好的未来。
习近平还强调，发展依然是当代中国第一要务(most urgent priority)。中国经济将保持平稳较快发展。我们将统筹稳增长(coordinated development)、促改革、调结构(promote structural 1 adjustment)、惠民生(improve people's well-being)、防风险(forestall risks)，促进经济增长保持中高速水平(keeping its economic growth at a medium-high level)。中国坚持改革开放(reform and opening up)，坚持依法治国(the rule of law)，坚持走和平发展(peaceful development)道路，愿同各国一道，构建以合作共赢为核心的新型国际关系。
