Both Qantas and Virgin 1 have welcomed the announcement that a second Sydney airport will be built at Badgery's Creek 2, but both have stressed the need for supporting infrastructure 3. Qantas Chief Executive Alan Joyce says a second airport is a vital piece of economic infrastructure and Badgery's Creek is clearly the right site. Virgin Airline says that key factors that will be important in the success of the airport include good access via public transport and a motorway 4, low-cost airport and infrastructure.

Sydney Airport Corporation, which operates Mascot 5 and has also been pushing for the reduction of curfews at Mascot to reduce the need for a second airport, has released a statement saying it supports the government's decision and that it has the right of first refusal to develop and operate at the site at Badgery's Creek and will continue to engage in constructive 6 discussions with the Federal Government as it might set decision.

All these news has little to be moving the share prices in either of the companies. Sydney airport Virgin and Qantas shares ended mixed.
