New Words
strike up 开始演奏;开始(交谈),建立起(友谊等);

How to Talk to A New Person
Sometimes the hardest part of talking to people is figuring out how to start the conversation. This can be particularly intimidating 2 when you want to talk to someone that you have not previously 3 met. Here are some conversation starters:
Make eye contact and offer a smile
You need to find someone ‘available’. Making eye contact will lead you to the person who’s also willing 4 to talk. And after you offer a smile, try to strike up a conversation.
Find some common ground
For example, when you are waiting in line at a coffee shop, you could say to the person in front of you, "What's good here? I've never tried any of their specialty drinks."
Comment on the situation
If you are at a party, a good place to start a conversation is near the food table.Try saying, “Isn’t it a nice party?” or “The music is great, isn’t it?”
Make a comment about the person
With the person you want to talk to, you could say, "I really love that purse you're carrying."
