The Consumer Electronics Show has been a big event in the United States for years, but the first ever event in Asia is now open in Shanghai. The fair is a showcase for all sorts of digital devices. One popular range of products at the event is wearable health devices including wristbands.
This company from the United States is famous for its watch that can monitor users health when they play sports or sleep.
It has been selling the device in China for two years, and sales here accounted for one-third of its total last year.
"I prefer wristbands that can monitor more types of sports. But if it could analyze your heartbeat with the pace when running, that will be better," Visitor Su Dong said.
"In the US people like to do exercise outdoors, but in China maybe it's more indoor exercise. We'll do some designs and modify products based on Chinese consumers' needs," Xiong Jingru with MISFIT, China, said.
This is the first time the CES fair has come to Asia. Many foreign brands say they care about the Chinese market very much, as the speed of new product launches in China is speeding up. But for many local consumers, price is still a major factor.
One American headphone maker says it is trying to offer new products here only about a month later than in its home country.
"Prices of our products are a little higher than those in the US considering factors including value-added tax. Chinese customers are now more rational, many now consider more about quality instead of brands only. Our prices range from 200 to 1,000, which is middle to high in the market," Li Jiaming, GM of Skullcandy, China, said.
"I will consider about design and quality of headphones when buying. I usually buy the ones at about 400 to 500 yuan," Visitor Rony Wong said.
Some consumers say they won't buy devices here if they can get them cheaper abroad.
"If there is a great price difference between the one in China and abroad, I will ask my friends to buy it in other countries. For instance, when foreign companies offer new products, their older versions' price will drop in overseas markets, almost half of its original price. But the price in China remains the same," Visitor Chen Zhihua said.
