Heavily armed insurgents have attempted to storm a guesthouse in the diplomatic quarter of Kabul, Afghanistan's capital.
The attack began just after 11 p.m. local time Tuesday, with heavy explosions accompanying sporadic automatic weapons fire.
Police did not identify the guesthouse or its occupants. Afghan and Western security sources said the target could be a compound owned by a prominent political family and used by foreigners.
There was no immediate word on casualties.
