婚姻状况证明
“婚姻状况证明”（marital status certificate），一般指的是“婚姻登记记录证明”和“无婚姻登记记录证明”。“婚姻登记证明”为了证明个人已经在民政部门登记过结婚，而“无婚姻登记记录证明”（Certificate of No Marriage Record）则是通常所指的“单身证明”（single/non-marital status certificate）。Marital status指婚姻状况，一般有未婚（unmarried/single），已婚（married）， 丧偶（widowed），离异（divorce）等情况，有些文化里会用分居（separated）、同居（cohabitation）等来描述婚姻状况。
民政局称，2013年，全国开出841万类似证明，超过了婚姻登记（marriage registration）的数量。叫停此类证明，显示了政府坚决清理类似证明“你妈是你妈”（prove "his mother was his mother"）等“奇葩证明”、简化行政程序（simplify administrative 4 procedures）的决心。
而对于市民担心的如果民政部门不再开具“单身证明”，而其他有关部门非要市民出具该怎么办的情况。民政部方面也表示，针对有些机构仍需婚姻登记证明的情况，民政部门将协商解决。
