By可以被用来表示某件东西与另一物体相邻或在另一物体旁边。
'The shoes are by the road.'
鞋子在马路边上。
By同样可以表达通过的意思。
'They've been watching the boat go by.'
他们一直在观看船经过。
表达过去或某一事件发生的事情时同样可以使用by。
'Applications 1 must be received by the 15th of July.'
申请必须要在七月15日之前收到。
By也可以被用来描述某物的程度。
'They won the game by 41 points.'
他们以41分的差距赢得了比赛。
