Jewelry 1 is going hi-tech at the Computex show in Taiwan. From glasses, to rings and watches, smart accessories are all the rage.
Wearable technology took center stage at Computex, the largest computer and technology show in Asia.
Wearable technology took centre stage at Computex, the largest computer and technology show in Asia.
Taiwan's ChipSip is showcasing its latest model of smart glasses, which give wearers real-time information. Museums and art galleries can use smart glasses to provide visitors guided tours and information in real-time.
"If you want to use it for a retail 2 market, you need to have a good interface 3 and good applications. Now in the market—now it lacks good applications. But we start from business to business service... We can use these smart glasses in the gallery service or warehouse 4 management," said Fenny 5 Chen, assistant manager of Chipsip Technology.
Computex is the largest computer show in Asia and has over a thousand exhibitors from 21 countries.
Wearable technology does not just have to be practical. It can be romantic as well, as demonstrated by IvyLink from China.
The IvyRing send alerts when receiving messages or calls between a couple. It provides its own phone app for chatting. And if one person misses the other, they can rub their ring, and the other ring will blink.
But none of these wearables impressed Martyn Williams, a senior correspondent of IDG News Service who has been covering Computex for 15 years.
"I think one of things we are seeing is there are a lot of wearables, but there is still not very much innovation in them. Fitness trackers, simple smart watches—everyone has them, but the industry really seems to be looking to the US, and especially Apple, for some sort innovations, some sort of ideas that would make people actually go out and buy them," Williams said.
Computex is the largest computer show in Asia and has more than 1,000 exhibitors from 21 countries.
