State Security officials in Liaoning province are investigating a Canadian couple, suspected of stealing state secrets.
Xinhua news agency identified the two as Kevin Garratt and Julia Dawn Garratt. The Foreign Ministry 1 has said the couple is suspected of collecting military and intelligence materials endangering national security.
The couple has been living in China since 1984, and opened a coffee shop in Dandong, a key gateway 2 to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in 2008. The couple previously 3 worked as teachers in southern China.
