The fifth High-Level Strategic Dialogue between China and the European Union began in Beijing on Tuesday. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met the EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini on Wednesday.

Wang hailed their efforts to maintain the high-level exchanges, and said both sides needed to embrace the opportunities presented to them.
Forty years on since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and the EU have become key trading partners. But Mogherini said that since the establishment of their strategic partnership in 2003, trade exchanges have more than quadrupled.
It is believed that this current dialogue between the pair will promote strategic mutual trust, enhance pragmatic cooperation, and create favorable conditions for the development of the partnership for peace, growth, reform and civilization.
