  大家对high 1 heels(高跟鞋)这个词一定不会感到陌生,还有一个和heel有关的词是well-heeled(富有的)。好的鞋跟儿和“富有”之间有什么关系?一起来看看吧。


  原来,well-heeled这个词是由美国人创造的,最早出现在1873年。在16、17世纪时,只有富人们才有条件及时更换鞋跟,这样鞋就能穿得长久一些,鞋跟也不会因为过度磨损而不美观。但普通人家是支付不起频繁更换鞋跟的费用的,所以well-heeled就逐渐变成“富有”的意思了。


  在17世纪,和well-heeled意思相反的词组down at the heels也很流行,它的意思是“贫穷的”。
