字根 vers,vert 源出拉丁文动词 vertere 及其过去分词 versus 1,原义即为 [转动, 转变]. 另有一种少见的拼法形态: divorce v./n. [离婚]. 源出拉丁文名词 divortium [离婚],在法文变成 divorce,后来再进入 英文. 这个字根比较特别的例字如: advertise v. [登广告] 源出拉丁文动词 advertere [转向,注意到],进入法文后转 成 avertir,意思也变作 [使注意],进入 英文又引申成 [通知产品问市],而有 [登 广告] 的意思. universe n. [宇宙,世界] 和 universal a.
