误：How can you account the accident?
正：How can you account for the accident?
析：account 用作动词时，表示“认为”，是及物动词；表示“解 释”、“说明”等，是不及物动词，若需后接宾语，通常借助 介词 for。
◆他因病未能来。
误：He couldn’t come on account for his illness.
正：He couldn’t come on account of his illness.
析：on account of(因为，由于)是固定短语。
◆你必须考虑这一事实。
误：You must take the [an] account of the fact.
正：You must take account of the fact.
正：You must take the fact into account.
析：take account of sth 与 take sth into account同义，均表 示“考虑”、“对...加以考虑”，均为固定结构，不要误加 冠词。比较：take an account of(把...入帐，把...列表)。
