You had a very serious knee injury, what was your biggest fear during rehab or while you were just even sitting on your couch 1 about whether you’d be able to play?
This comeback has been very, very emotional 3. Then there’s something difficult for us, because at then we need our knees, without a good knee it’s impossible to compete well. So sometimes I still have pain, but the most important thing is I am able to play with no limitations 4, and that’s everything.
Did you have any fear inside, maybe I won’t be able to get back to that high level?
Sure I have doubts, everybody has doubts, and the doubts are good, because you’re arrogant 5, I know it, and sure it is normal to have a doubt when you’re playing and have doubt when you’re injury and you don’t know if you will be able to be back at your 100%, but that’s bout 2 of our life, and just accept it, and I’d work hard, worth with quality I get to everyday.
Sabrina Williams has been talking about when you played very well from a very young age, you kind of just think tennis is always gonna be there, you almost take it for granted 6 a little bit, and she said for her, almost losing it because of her health has made her appreciate the game differently. Do you appreciate it or approach it any differently?
It’s true that when you are coming back from the low moments, victories 7 are more special, more emotional. But I always know that that’s not forever, so just play to enjoy every moment as I might do it again, trying to try my best in every moment, because in a few years, I will not have the chance to play again in a state like I did yesterday.
You won your first ATP match at 15 years old, one of the youngest to ever do something like that, when you look back at that kid, back then, what do you think being the man that you’re sitting here now?
Well, not many differences, older.
Would you tell him anything, would you give him any advice? Would you give him a shirt with sleeves 8 or anything like that?
Well, it was a special moment, that all the stars are special and when you are a kid, when you are younger, you are able to play with different styles and crazy jumping, believing everything is new, but that moment passed, I enjoyed it a lot, we’re in different moment today, but the love and the passion 9 for the game is still the same.
