First of all , let's have a review. 在第七课中我们学了与“be scared to death”的地道美语说法，大家还记得吗？它们是：make one's hair stand on, 吓得某人的毛发竖起来；make one's blood run cold 吓得某人浑身冰凉；scare the shit out of somebody （scare somebody shitless）吓得某人屁滚尿流。与之同义的中文四字短语有：吓得（毛骨悚然，不寒而栗，胆战心惊，魂飞魂散，摄人心寒等等）。

现在我们开始第8课的学习。Lesson eight How to say “浑身下上”in real American English? 第八课：浑身上下，美语怎么说？Let's listen to the following sentence: Louise is the one in red over there from head to toe. Louise就是在那儿的那位穿一身红衣服的人。Louise /is the one/ in red/ over there /from head to toe. 听众朋友，在这个句子中哪里表示出“浑身上下”的意思？

它是一个介词短语，含有我们身体的部位，一个是head, h-e-a-d , 脑袋，一个是toe, t-o-e, 脚趾间，这个介词短语是：from head to toe，从头到脚，浑身上下。In English it means" covering one's whole body".
Let's look at two more sentences. 1 They looked me over from head to toe. 他们从头到脚打量了我一番。（备注："Look over" means "examine"，查看，检查。Can you look over my composition for me?你能帮我检查一下我的作文吗？The bell rang before I could look over my answers.我还没来得及看一下答案铃就响了。None of us will ever have to look over our shoulders again.我们都不必再战战兢兢地过日子了。)2 She was mildly bloated from head to toe. 她浑身上下轻微浮肿。
Look at this sentence: I admired her from head to toe. In this sentence, what does "from head to toe" mean? It means "very much , completely or thoroughly 1, etc.". 在这句话中，from head to toe的意思是由其基本意思而引申出来的意思：非常地，极度地，彻底彻尾地，完全所有地，and so on.
Let's look at two more sentences. 1 Mary if perfect from head to toe. Mary 真是完美极了，毫无瑕疵。2 John loves Mary from head to toe. John爱Mary爱得神魂颠倒（晕头转向）。
