“气若游丝”也可以说是“气若悬丝”，它出自于明朝罗贯中《三国演义》第36回。文中曰：“吾今气弱悬丝，专望救援。”“气弱游丝”顾名思义就是气息已经是很微弱的游丝了，比喻一个人生命垂危，随时都有归天的可能性。So, how should we put it in English. We might as well listen to the following sentence: His life hung by a thread but the doctor managed to survive him. 虽然他气若游丝，但是医生还是尽力把他救活了。在这个句子中用了一个含有thread，t-h-r-e-a-d，线这个单词的一个短语来表述“气若游丝”，它是：hang by a threadLet's look at one more sentence: For three days, he was so sick that he hung by a hair, 他病危三天了，快要挂了。“快要挂了。”是我们中文中表示一个人快死了的口语。在这个句子中，我用的不是thread, 而是hair, h-a-i-r 头发这个单词和hang by 连用来表述“气若游丝”。它是：hang by a hair. Both "hang by a hair" and "hang by a hair "mean" a person's life is great danger".
