What may well be the biggest storm ever hits the Philippines. Also Secretary State John Kerry expresses his doubts on official version of the JFK assassination 1. Let's get started.
We're just beginning to get our first look at what a super typhoon can do a country of nearly 100 million people. Internationally, it's call typhoon Haiyan. In the Philippines, they call it Yolanda. Whatever you call it, it was unlike anything most of us would ever see. Even from orbit, it looks terrifying. This picture is taken just before it made landfall. It cut directly cross the middle of the island nation. The islands of L, B., and C. taking severe hits. C. city is home to more than 800,000 people. Look at that monster storm. We got a correspondent at L. in the city of T. population nearly a quarter million. We haven't yet heard from him since the storm hit. We've been repeatedly trying to get in connect with him. We've been unable to. Communications with the hardness areas, they are not existent. News organizations, aid organizations, families trinna reach loved ones. None it seems can establish contact. So, there's much we do not yet know at these hours, especially about how many were killed or hurt in the typhoon. The confirmed number right now is small but looking at the pictures as the storm coming ashore 2, it's hard to image that number won't rise.
This is the look inside perhaps one of the strongest storms in recorded history.
Super typhoon Haiyan made a direct hit on the island.
The typhoon slammed at the Philippines 4:30 am Friday morning with winds of 195 miles per hour and guest at 235 an hour. That's higher than the winds of hurricane Sandy and Katrina combined. The powerful storm plowed 3 through the island leaving homes and buildings destroyed. Government official said many devastated 4 were be uninhabitable for months.
That country's president says they are facing a clemency 5.
This was in the CNN T. city which is in the direct path of the storm. This reporter from CNN affiliate 6 ABS CBN was forced inside as the storm barreled in and watched the street below him become a flood zone. Water from the storm as high as 10 feet in some areas, 2 barges 7 near the city of B. were left stranded 8. The huge wave preventive rescue crews from reaching them. Crew members abandoned ship by jumping into the turning water trying to scramble 9 back to land. As of now, one of the crew remains 10 missing. The typhoon came with warning. 125,000 people were able to seek refuge in evacuation shelters and in some places the cleanup has already begun tut aid workers have not been able to reach some of the hardest hit areas with the full picture of devastation 11 from this powerful storm is still unknown.
