The generations before you came with to count a job-now it's your turn, welcome! You know I once had a friend who had a rich uncle who promised to pay for his college as long as my friend wished to stay in school, "You should stay in school just as long as you can," the rich uncle said, "because when you get out of college, you've gotta work everyday for the rest of your life." And you all will come to understand what that rich uncle meant, just as surely as you someday wonder where the hell you put your reading glasses, and to yell 5 on your kids to turn that damn 6 music down.

1. set sth. to music

为…谱（曲）；为…配（乐）；

eg. He has attracted much interest by setting ancient religious texts to music.

他因为给古老的宗教经书谱曲配乐而备受关注。

eg. The composer set a sonnet 7 to music.

作曲家为一首十四行诗谱了曲。

2. star in

（在戏剧或电影中）担任主角，主演；

eg. The previous year Adolphson had starred in a play in which Ingrid had been an extra.

上一年，阿道夫森在一部戏剧里担任主角，当时英格丽在剧中还只是个临时演员。

eg. He's starred in dozens of films.

他主演过很多部影片。

3. be equal to

同样的；相等的；

eg. The supply is equal to the demand.

供求均等。

eg. You are equal to him in positon and in money.

在地位和金钱方面你和他倒是门当户对的。

4. rest with

（权力、责任、决定权）在于，属于；

eg. The judge said that whether Miss Bergman wishes to admit it or not, the responsibility rests with her.

法官说不管伯格曼小姐愿不愿意承认，这件事的责任都在她。

eg. The final decision rested with the President.

最后的决定权在于总统。

5. make sense of

理解；弄懂；

eg. This means we are accessing images in our minds to make sense of the words.

这说明我们正在头脑中用图像来理解这些词语。

eg. Seemingly 8 unrelated subjects often contain the same principles, and it is only up to us as to how we make sense of them.

看似毫无关连的东西，其实有着相同的道理，只是在于我们如何去理解它而已。
