China has urged Japan to live up to its pledges on historical issues and promote peace and stability in the region. Foreign Ministry 1 spokeswoman Hua Chunying made the remarks at a press briefing on Monday, responding to the New Year speeches of Japanese Emperor Akihito and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
"Only when Japan honestly faces up to the past, can it truly own the future. We hope Japan can fit their actions to the words, have a correct understanding and attitude towards its history of aggression 2, abide 3 by its statements and promises regarding history, learn lessons from history and stick to a peaceful development road, to play a constructive 4 role in regional peace, stability and development," Hua says.
