Next week’s US Open has lost some star power as Maria Sharapova has pulled out of the year’s final Grand Slam of the season citing a right shoulder injury. The U.S. Tennis Association announced the withdrawal 1 of the 2006 champion.

Sharapova, who was originally seeded third for the Open, says she had hoped to be able to go but the Russian’s shoulder just wasn’t ready. The draw for the Slam at Flushing Meadows will be held on Thursday ahead of the start of round one play on Monday.
