 　　"… all wear green," said a soft but very distinct voice, beginning in the middle of a sentence, "and Delta 1 Children wear khaki.

　　“……都穿绿色，”一个柔和清晰的声音从句子中途开始，“而德尔塔儿童则穿咔叽。
　　Oh no, I don't want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They're too stupid to be able to read or write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly colour. I'm so glad I'm a Beta."
　　爱扑塞隆穿得更差一些。爱扑塞隆们太笨，学不会读书写字；他们穿黑色，那是很粗陋的颜色。我非常高兴我是个比塔。”
　　There was a pause; then the voice began again.
　　停顿了片刻，那声音又开始了。
　　"Alpha children wear grey They work much harder than we do, because they're so frightfully clever.
　　“阿尔法儿童穿灰色。他们的工作要比我们辛苦得多，因为他们聪明得吓人。
　　I'm really awfuly glad I'm a Beta, because I don't work so hard.
　　我因为自己是比塔而非常高兴，因为我用不着做那么辛苦的工作。
　　And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas 2. Gammas are stupid.
　　何况我们也比伽玛们和德尔塔们要好得多。
　　They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don't want to play with Delta children.
　　伽玛们都很愚蠢，他们全都穿绿衣服，德尔塔们穿咋叽衣服。
　　And Epsilons are still worse. They're too stupid to be able …"
　　啊，不，我不愿意跟德尔塔孩子们玩。爱扑塞隆就更糟糕了，太笨，他们学不会…”
　　The Director pushed back the switch. The voice was silent.
　　主任摁回了按钮，声音没有了。
　　Only its thin ghost continued to mutter from beneath the eighty pillows.
　　只有它的细弱的幽灵还在八十个枕头底下继续絮叨。
　　"They'll have that repeated forty or fifty times more before they wake; then again on Thursday, and again on Saturday.
　　“它醒来之前这些话还要为他们重复四十到五十遍；星期四，星期六还要重复。
　　A hundred and twenty times three times a week for thirty months.

　　After which they go on to a more advanced lesson."

　　Not so much like drops of water, though water, it is true, can wear holes in the hardest granite 7;

　　But all these suggestions are our suggestions!" The Director almost shouted in his triumph. "
　　可是这一切暗示都是我们的暗示！”主任几乎因为胜利而高叫了起来。
　　Suggestions from the State." He banged the nearest table.
　　“而由国家执行的。”他捶了捶最靠近他的桌子。
　　"It therefore follows …"
　　“因此随之而来的就是……”
　　A noise made him turn round.
　　一阵噪声使他回过头去。
　　"Oh, Ford 9!" he said in another tone, "I've gone and woken the children."
　　“啊，福帝！”他换了个调子说道，“我只顾说话了，把孩子们都吵醒了。”
