[00:24.66]Oh right. That sounds good. What year are you in?

[00:30.30]My third, unfortunately.I've got my finals in the spring.

[00:35.74]I'm really worried about them.

[00:49.37]Yes,I'm going to take a year off and go travelling a bit

[01:03.82]International finance 2.

[01:07.47]Wow.Have you applied 3 anywhere yet?

[01:11.84]Not yet,but there's a course in Leeds I'm very interested in.

[01:17.90]Leeds? I've heard it's got a very good reputation 4.

[01:23.54]What do you need to do to get in?

[01:27.67]Well,obviously,I need to get a good grade and then I have to go for an interview.

[01:34.54]Oh right.Well,good luck.

[01:39.79]Thanks.I'll need it.Anyway,Lee,what about you? What do you do?

[01:46.16]I'm doing a one-year art course at my local college

[01:57.52]and I'd like to do art history at university next year.

[04:40.14]'You don't understand. It was different when you went to university!'

[04:45.81]he shouted and then he left the house.

[04:50.77]Actually,I really do understand

[04:55.92]and he is right to say things were different when I went to university.

[05:01.98]Twenty-five years ago, being a student in Britain was really easy.

[05:08.53]We didn't have to pay anything to study at university.

[05:13.70]It was completely 7 free.

[05:23.60]And I mean,gave.

[05:27.26]I got a grant 8 of over two thousand pounds

[05:32.23](which was a lot of money in those days)

[05:42.15]Nowadays,lots of students(or their parents!)

[05:47.40]have to pay two or three thousand pounds for their course.

[05:52.97]They also have to pay for food, somewhere to live, books, bills and everything else.

[06:32.41]but actually a lot of the time we just sat around and chatted to each other,

[06:38.58]watched French films,read books,

[06:43.23]went on demonstrations 11 or went to parties.

[06:47.59]I only had to go to ten hours of lectures each week,

[06:53.23]so I had lots of time to write my essays and do everything else I wanted to do.

[06:59.71]And of course, almost all students lived away from home.

[07:05.35]We had a lot of freedom-

[07:09.01]we didn't have to worry about coming home late or bringing friends home,

[07:15.07]because our parents weren't there. It was fun and easy.

[07:21.31]I just chose the course I wanted to do,which was politics 12 and history.

[07:28.18]I don't think you can do that now.

[07:32.13]I know Danny really wants to do American studies,

[07:37.40]and I'm sure it'd be interesting,

[07:51.17]because it was easy to find work.

[07:54.93]I got a job in banking 13 very quickly,

[07:59.97]but he'll have to pay back the money he's borrowed.

[08:04.55]So he needs to get a job which pays good money straight after graduating.

[08:11.21]That's why I want him do do his computing degree.

[08:16.46]It'll be better for him in the end.

[08:20.53]2 While you listen
