Let's learn how to play the game of checkers. Two players choose one color of the round disks known as checkers. In this particular game, the checkers are red and black. There are 12 black checkers and 12 red checkers. The checker board consists of 64 squares, alternating black and red squares. Place the checkers of the same color on the black squares on the side of the board closest to you. Your opponent places his or her checkers on the side of the board closest to him or her. You should fill three rows with the same color. The person with the black checkers moves first. That person will move his or her checker diagonally forward staying on the black squares. The object of the game is to capture your opponent's checkers by jumping over his checker into an empty black square. If the black square diagonally behind your opponent's checker is occupied, you cannot jump his checker for a capture. You can make single or multiple jumps depending on the availability of empty squares. If you cannot make a jump, you still have to make a move going forward diagonally. Once you reach the far opposite row from you, you will then be crowned King. A King is crowned by placing a captured checker of the same color on top of the King. This will be two checkers stacked. A King can be moved diagonally forward or backward. This means the King can also jump diagonally forward and backwards 1 on the same turn. Single checkers are limited to going forward only. A player wins when the opponent is unable to move any of his or her checkers.
