The Thief 2 and the Coffee 窃贼的咖啡
Part 3 1 Part 1
One night, I was 4 working at the police 5 station. 一天晚上，我在警察局工作。
I had 6 just poured 7 a cup of coffee when the phone rang. 我刚倒了一杯咖啡，电话就响了起来。

The night was cold, but my coffee was still hot. 夜里很冷，但我的咖啡还是热的。
I parked my car. 我把车停好，
But then I saw 12 something strange 13. 接着却看见了一件古怪的事情，
A man beside the road was wearing black clothes. 路边有个穿着黑色衣服的人。

I walked over to the man. 我走到那人面前，
He was holding a map. 他拿着一份地图。
"Good evening," I said. "晚安，"我说，
"I'm a police officer 14. Are you lost?" "我是警察， 请问你迷路了吗？"
"Yes," he said. "是的，"他说，
"I'm looking for a friend's house, but I don't know this neighborhood 15 well. " "我在找一个朋友的家，但我对这附近不熟。"
Was the man telling the truth 16? 那个人说的是实话吗？
I didn't know. 我当时并不知道。
But then I saw that the man had a coffee bottle just like mine. 不过，这时我却看见他有个和我一模一样的咖啡壶。

"I keep my coffee in a bottle like that! "我都把我的咖啡装在和你一样的壶里！
It keeps things warm for hours. 这样可以保暖好几个小时。
May I see it?" 可以借我看看吗？"
He gave 17 it to me and I poured some coffee in the lid 18. 他把咖啡壶交给我，于是我倒了些咖啡在盖子里。
"I drank from that, officer. I wouldn't ..." "那是我喝的，警官。 我不会…"
The man stopped when I took 19 a drink. 那人看我喝了一口之后，就随即住了嘴。
The coffee was ice cold. 他的咖啡冷冰冰的。
"I love coffee," I said. "我很爱喝咖啡，"我说，
"But I like it hot in January. "可是我在一月这个大冬天里喜欢喝热咖啡。
What are you really doing here?" 你究竟在这里做什么？"
1 mystery

- He often tells stories full of mystery.他常讲些充满神秘色彩的故事。

2 thief

- He saw the thief running away.他看见贼逃走了。

- This is the broken part.这就是损坏的部件。

5 police

- They sent him over to the police.他们将他遣送警察局。
- It took the police only several days to break the case.警察只用了几天就破案了。

- I just had a good idea!我有个好主意！
- The boy had a small branch of a tree in his hand.这个男孩手上拿一条小树枝。
7 poured
涌出( pour的过去式和过去分词 )； 倾，倒； 涌流； 倾泻
- She poured the dark brown liquid down the sink. 她把深棕色的液体倒进了污水池。
- Scalding tears poured down her face. 滚烫的泪水从她脸上扑簌簌地流下来。
9 maple
n.槭树，枫树，槭木
- Maple sugar is made from the sap of maple trees.枫糖是由枫树的树液制成的。
- The maple leaves are tinge with autumn red.枫叶染上了秋天的红色。

v.动词say的过去式、过去分词
- He said to me that he could not come.他对我说他不能来。
- He said to his mother that he would do it by himself.他对他的母亲说他将自己独立做那件事。

- Why would you say that?为什么你会这么说？

- Would you like to saw a tree for me?你能为我锯棵树吗？
- The moment I saw you,I knew you were angry with me.我一看到你，就知道你在生我的气。
14 officer
n.军官；(政府的) 官员
- His father is a police officer.他父亲是警官。
- Behind him an officer stood in the doorway.在他的背后，一个军官已站在门口。
15 neighborhood
n.附近；邻近地区
- I love the neighborhood here.我喜欢这儿的周围邻里。
- He lives somewhere in the neighborhood of the station.他住在火车站附近的某个地方。
16 truth
n.真理；真相，事实，实际情况
- We must find out the truth of the matter.我们必须弄清楚事情的真相。
- You may trust me that I'm speaking the truth.你可以相信我在说实话。
17 gave
vbl.（give的过去式）给予，产生，发表
- He asked for money and I gave him some.他要钱，我给了他一些。
- I gave you a map so you wouldn't get lost. 我给你一张地图，这样你就不会迷路了。
