Dialogue A

(Michael is talking to the school principal, Miss Dakar.)

Michael:　Thanks for letting me do this, Miss Dakar.

Miss Dakar:　No problem, Michael. It's very nice of you to volunteer to teach our kids.

Michael:　I've been traveling around India and I want to give something back in return.

Miss Dakar:　Great. How long will you be able to stay here?

Michael:　I have one more week left before I have to fly back to Taiwan.

Miss Dakar:　Let me tell you the ins and outs of our school.

(麦可正在跟校长达卡女士谈话。)

Miss Dakar:　The children you'll be teaching are street kids. They've had rough lives.

Michael:　What do you mean?

Miss Dakar:　All of them have been deserted 1 by their families and now live in an orphanage 2.

Michael:　Does this mean they have given up learning?

Miss Dakar:　Just the opposite. These kids cherish any chance to learn. They know that this is their only opportunity to do something with their lives.

Michael:　That's great.
