The Federal Government has been accused of misusing 1 taxpayer 2 money to fund its mining super profits tax campaign. The Government exempted 3 itself from its own guidelines to run the ad blitz to counter what it says is misleading information from the mining industry. But the Minerals Council of Australia has rejected the claim and says it won't be deterred 4 from getting its message across.


Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron says he wants to make his economy less dependent on the City of London and its financial services sector 5. The UK's economy has been struggling since the global financial crisis and has a budget deficit 6 of 160 billion pounds. In his first major speech since taking office, Mr. Cameron said he wanted to support industry outside of London in the engineering, pharmaceutical 7, and aerospace 8 sectors 9.


To the markets now, and Wall Street has finished the week lower. The Dow Jones and the S&P 500 both shed over one per cent. In Europe, fortunes were mixed. The Dax inched forward but the FTSE fell slightly. And local shares finished higher in Friday trading boosted by earlier rallies on overseas markets.


To the currencies and the Aussie dollar has lost ground buying 84.6 US cents. And the price of Tapis oil has fallen to just under 79 dollars a barrel.
