The federal government is under fire for considering a plan to pay Indonesia for the cost of intercepting 1 boats of asylum 2 seekers on their way to Australia. The opposition 3 says the so-called Indonesian solution is an attempt by the government to buy its way out of bad policy. The government won't confirm details of the plan, but says it's seeking further cooperation from Indonesia. Seventy-eight asylum seekers on an Australian Customs ship are due to arrive in Indonesia today.
Treasury 4 says it's constantly monitoring the effect of the government stimulus 5 spending on the economy. The Treasury Secretary Ken 6 Henry has again faced questioning from the opposition over the size and effect of the stimulus measures. He’s told a Senate estimates hearing the spending is designed to wind down over time.
