Lesson32 Life in the City and Country

Sam and Mabel Brown wish they lived on a farm. If they had a farm, theycould raise animals and produce their own food. It is hard work, but Mr.and Mrs. Brown would enjoy the peace and quiet of being in the country. And they could spend more time with their children. Linda could have herown horse, and Jimmy could go hunting and fishing with his father. On theother hand, if the Browns left the city, Jimmy and Linda would miss theirfriends. The Browns almost bought a farm several months ago, but it wasn'twhat they expected. Nowadays, it's hard to find a good piece of farmlandat a reasonable price.Elmer and Sarah Coggins have lived on a farm all their lives, and it hasn'tbeen easy. In 1998 their house burned down. This year they have lost mostof their corn and wheat crops because of bad weather. Sarah Coggins thinksit would be better if they moved to the city. Elmer could get a job workingin his brother's supermarket, and she could open a bakery. She makeswonderful cakes and pies. If Elmer and Sarah moved to the city, they wouldmake new friends and go out more often. But they would probably miss theirfarm. After all, it's the only life they have ever known 1
